Booty Workout at the Country Club

booty_270x232~ @ Port De Plaisance ~

By Claudienne Peterson

I somehow managed to convince one of my super fit and motivated colleagues to come along with the not-so-fit or super-motivated ME to a Booty class with fitness competitor and trainer Amy Isis and trainer Ryan Tackling.

As we entered the class, we noticed there were two other victims (haha), but they belonged to Ryan. My colleague Chanaz and I had Amy all to ourselves. If you've seen Amy's butt, you know she works very hard for it – scrap that... If you've seen Amy's body, you know she works very hard for it.

I just can't believe she's 160lbs. I weigh SO much less, but I'm still "pillowy" – it's an eye-opener that the number on the scale sometimes means nothing. It's a lot more about fat percentages and how much water your body holds. It's also how your clothes fit and how you look in the mirror.

We started out with tabatas. In these particular ones created by Amy, we would do a gruelling move for 50 seconds, then get a rest for 10 seconds. We started out in a studio at the back, away from prying eyes. But when we went to where the weight machines were, we were under the watch of many prying eyes. It reminded me of how much I dislike gyms. It takes a bit for someone like me to set her mind on the goal and only the goal.

We both ended up not being able to walk properly for days. I was a bit off-balance sideways, leaning slightly too much to the left or right and having to hold on to a wall or something for stability. What kinds of moves would cause such pain, mixed with numbness and a loss of balance? Think of kickbacks, fire hydrants, sumo pulses, body squats, jump squats, lunges and many other tortuous moves, including something called "curtsies" repeated over and over again with a few seconds rest in between.

We started out with the tabatas for the first half and moved on to the weights; everything was focused on strengthening the ham strings in order to lift the butt. As much as Chanaz and I were in pain, we have both agreed to do it again, real soon. Why? Because that's the way you get results! Work hard, eat properly to build muscle and be patient, knowing that muscle soreness is involved.

Our "trainers" for the evening also gave us tips on how to reduce the appearance of cellulite with scrubbing coffee grinds on the parts of skin containing cellulite, they also mentioned how important properly hydrating oneself is. I drink a lot of water, 6-8 litres a day, which they approved. And last but not least, advice on improving the appearance of one's cellulite – massage – whether it's a professional massage or getting your partner to do it (if you have a partner), massaging the undesired areas really help to get the circulation going and if done right, will even slowly help to smooth those stubborn, old areas. This was good advice from Amy and Ryan. As Amy is no stranger to being on stage in a teeny-weeny bikini and flexing those muscles for the judges, she HAS no choice but to look her best. Plus she has placed well in competitions, so we definitely trust her advice!

So Chanaz and I learned a few things: 1. We can take a LOT of pain and survive Amy's workout. 2. Right afterward, we actually started feeling our butts lifting. 3. We're going back for more (at some point). 4. The moves can all be done at home!

I wonder if you readers are exhausted after just reading this. That workout just really kicked my butt! But that's the whole point. right?
