A Quick Trip to TIJON Parfumery!

~Heavenly Scents~

Just browsing through every part of the parfumerie you'll realize that TIJON has a lot more to offer than just unique perfumes and colognes; they also have lotions in their signature scents, mosquito repellent, sunscreen and after sun, homemade soaps, lots of gift items and information about the history of perfume, psychological studies and quotes about scent.

This is a very interesting place where you can easily spend a lot of time. The owner, John Berglund is a lovely person, and so easy to talk to. As we chatted he led me into the Lab where the magic of creating a unique and personalized scent happens. I noticed was a very old fashioned copper-looking cylinder type contraption, John explained that this was a steam distiller and it is used to distill essential oils from actual flowers. I asked if these included flowers from around here and which ones? He said they only do about 5 flowers for now; Gardenia, Rosemary, Lavender, Frangipani, and Jasmine.

Frangipani and Jasmine are bit difficult to distill due to them being more delicate type flowers so they don't do those as much, but it's nice to know that those 5 are possible to distill right here on island. The rest of the essential oils are shipped in which means that TIJON has a large selection of scents; around 300 different scents to choose from. Scents that stuck out at me were the 4 different types of Bamboo scents, the Baked Bread(omg, so gooood), Honey (smells like baby power but better), Baby Powder, Tomato (smells super fresh) and Tobacco (also surprisingly refreshing).

John told me about the History of "Eau de Cologne" and that it was the first 'male" perfume, made in Cologne, Germany. John knows a LOT about scents, and perfume, he is on his 22nd scent from TIJON soon to be released in which the public got to participate on voting from 4 of John's original scents. He will blend the top 2 popular scents as they were almost tied.

TIJON carries its own original scents that are quite popular. And it's 23rd will be a Luxe one called Del Mar with gold flakes inside! What TIJON is really popular for globally (USA Today just ranked them in the top 25 Caribbean Gifts) Is that you can go in there and take a perfume-making class; 15 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 3 hours.

Many tourists who visit the island, especially those on the cruise-ships take the shorter classes, where you learn about the art of making perfume, but you can also make your very own unique scent; you end up with your 3 uniquely blended scents of which you'll have to choose one. Then you choose the size and type of bottle you want to put it in. You can also add YOUR unique scent as a lotion and bottle it, what's even better is that TIJON will keep your very own uniquely blended formula on hand for when you want to make re-orders, which you can easily do online!

Take a trip to TIJON, you will fall in LOVE with this place and will have a wonderful time with the team.
