Deejay Siw'Roo (born: Alfredo Gibbs-Claxton) is a French St. Martin-born deejay who enjoys heating up dance floors and giving party goers the time of their lives with the hottest tunes. The 20-year-old deejay, a Pisces born, won the crowing of the "Next Best Upcoming DJ Competition" at Secret Night Club in Port De Plaisance in 2011 and the "DJ Showdown Competition" at Dreams Night Club in Sandy Ground in 2014. He tells Out ´N About why he loves deejaying in this week's Hot Seat.
Who is DJ Siw'Roo?
"DJ Siw'Roo is a hardworking, social person who enjoys hanging out with his closest friends. Musically, my motivation is pleasing my fans and ensuring that they enjoy themselves to the fullest. I am a versatile DJ, who is able to play any genre of music."
How would you describe yourself?
"I'm a very friendly person, who likes meeting new people in the music industry, such as fellow DJs, producers, music artists and other musical personalities. I am self-motivated and always willing to embrace new challenges."
How did you end up with your current deejay name and what does DJ Siw'Roo mean?
"I was given that name by my favourite uncle Bernito when I was only thirteen years old. This was also the start of my musical career. DJ Siw'Roo means two things "party person," which originates from the Dominican Creole dialect, but uniquely spelled for my DJ name. Another meaning is "sweet," which originates from the Guadelopean Creole dialect."
Where were you educated, what did you study and why?
"I was educated at the Lycée Polyvalent Des Iles Du Nord in French St. Martin and focused my studies on being a mechanic. This profession is a family tradition which is what lead me to follow the same field."
How did you end up in the deejaying/entertainment field?
"From a very early age, when I was about twelve-years-old, I was exposed to several DJs and entertainment artistes in whom I was always interested. I always had a high interest in music and shortly after being exposed to the music industry, I began deejaying. I was 13 years old then."
There are many deejays on the island, what sets you apart from the rest?
"I believe what sets me apart from other DJs is my uniqueness to bring a new experience to any party or event that I am a fortunate to DJ at. I'm always giving party goers and my fans the entertainment and musical vibes they enjoy in all genres of music. I have played in numerous night clubs, concerts and other events both locally and aboard. Recently, I had the opportunity to play in many establishments around France and Anguilla amongst many other places."
What is it about deejaying that you like?
"The most motivating and exciting aspect of my DJ career is pleasing the fans and ensuring they have an enjoyable time listening to all their favourite songs. I also enjoy listening to the feedback from the party goers and fans as this encourages me to continue providing the quality they deserve."
How do you think you contribute to a better society as a deejay?
"I believe I contribute by promoting my island and exposing our island locally, regionally and internationally. As a positive young professional DJ, I believe I also better my society by showcasing my talent and proving that genuine talent comes in many forms."
What are some of the challenges you encounter in this field?
"I've always looked at any challenge as a motivation to keep being. DJ Siw'Roo is someone who is always eager to please all party-goers as the party DJ. Another challenge is there is always competition in this field, but I believe due to my versatility and my unique style is what sets me apart from my colleagues in the DJ world."
As a deejay you're around music all the time, who is your all-time favourite artiste?
"My favourite artistes are mostly locals, such as the Odd Brothers, Red Eye Crew, O3, Bush Boys, General Pye and internationally I would say is Lil Wayne."
What do you like best about the job?
"What I like best about DJ-ing is finding new music and being able to play at different events. There is never a dull moment."
Where can fans find you playing and at what times?
"I have numerous gigs in the coming weeks, which vary from playing at Tantra Nightclub and Sanctuary, Casa Blanca and Ray's Bar in St. James amongst others."
What is your next big event?
"I will soon be launching my own radio show on a popular radio station. Besides that, I played for the Unity Bash at Tantra Nightclub on August 22 and again at Tantra Nightclub on August 28, with Odd Brothers. Lastly, I've got some regional travel plans booked in the coming months."
If you could meet any deejay in the world, who would you want to meet and why?
"If I could meet any DJ in the world, I would want to meet DJ Khaled, because he is a producer and he owns "we the best music," which is one of the best known record labels that embrace many artists."
What message do you have for youngsters who want to follow in your footsteps?
"I would advise them to follow their dreams by keeping a positive mind. Don't give up on any life goals you've set for yourself, as with hard work and consistency it will become a reality."
What else are you involved in outside of deejaying?
"I'm involved in organising several events at many local establishments and am a long time member of Big and Serious Sounds."
Do you have any (other) special talents?
"I've very athletic and I enjoy participating in several sports such as, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and other physical activities while working out at the gym."
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
"With the blessings of the Almighty Father and my support team, I see myself being able to continue with international gigs and participating in tours whilst promoting my island and showcasing my DJing style."
What is your dream holiday venue?
"My dream holiday venue would be Canada, especially since a part of Canada is French speaking and I can easily identify with that."

What's your favourite type of music – what artistes do you listen to?
"Dancehall, hip hop, rap and soca. The artistes I listen to are Vybz Kartel, Alkaline, Future, Rich Homie Quan, Destra, Machel Montano and Exodus HD."
If you could ask any three persons (dead or alive) to a dinner party who would they be and what would you cook for them?
"I would invite my late grandfather Handito, my late cousin Junior Bertin Maurice, and R&B artist Nicki Minaj. I would most likely cook for them a beef-based dish with any of their favourite side dishes.
