Breast Cancer Celebrity Dinner

868_celeb_dinnerBe spoiled at Moomba/Sopranos Too

Be spoiled by your favourite local celebrities, who will be waitressing at the breast cancer awareness fundraising Celebrity Waitress Dinner, raffle and silent auction at Moomba/Sopranos Too in Maho this Saturday, October 10, from 7:30pm.

The dinner costs US $65 and includes a "pinklicious" welcome drink, lots of fun and excitement.

Celebrity waitresses will be Education Minister Rita Bourne-Gumbs; Soualiga Service Point's Office and Retail Manager Kenty Lichtenberg; businesswoman and philanthropist Hanisha Alwani; Parliamentarian Leona Marlin-Romeo; Laser 101.1fm Suppa Duppa Morning Show co-host Desiree "Dee" Mago and Marketing and Customer Service Acting Manager Suzy Kartokromo of Princess Juliana International Airport SXM.

Coordinator Grisha Heyliger-Marten said the celebrities were chosen because of their impact on the community. The idea is them to use their skills to wait on guests with the aim of accruing as much tips as possible to earn the title of best and highest grossing waitress. All tips, as well as the proceeds from the raffle and auction and 10 per cent of the restaurants' revenues for the night, will go to the Positive and Elektralyets foundations.

The ladies have a task ahead as former celebrity waitress Democratic Party MP Sarah Wescot-Williams and Katsiaryna Ozkan raised US $5,300 in tips in 2012, while MP Tamara Leonard raised US $5,700 in tips in 2013 – the highest amounts raised thus far in the annual event

Mercedes "Elektra" Wyatt-van der Walls will be the MC of the event, which will also feature a silent auction and raffle. Auction items will range from jewellery and electronics to hotel stays and surprise items. Raffle tickets cost $3 each; items include phone credits, mobile phone, vouchers from restaurants, electronics items and "some big time surprises."

Patrons are urged to wear a "touch of pink" and come with full pockets as all hands go on deck to raise funds for breast cancer awareness in the country. Cheques will be accepted.

The menu for the tasty evening will include an assortment of hot and cold tapas; pita triangles with four different dips (vegetarian); red snapper ceviche; chicken skewers; Italian meatballs, salmon crostinis and petite salad.

Main course will be your choice of vegetable penne pasta (vegetarian); chicken parmesan with oven garlic roasted potatoes and vegetables or Mahi Mahi filet topped with balsamic veggies and pesto."

The Petite grand dessert will be a tasting of the establishments' "most popular desserts."

Coordinators are hoping to top the $10,000 that has been raised in the past.

Call 520-6625 for reservations and ask to be seated by your favourite waitress.
