Hotseat - Lady Q

839_hotseatShe is best known island-wide as Lady Q for her popular radio show “Positive Choice” on SOS Radio. To find out more about Lady Q, read this week’s Hot Seat and see what she shared with Out n About when we caught up with her.

 Full name?

Tamica Joseph.

I will be 35 years old in April.

How would you describe yourself?

Full of life, energetic, down to earth, straight-up and loving.

Where were you born? Tell us a little about where you grew up.

I was born in the land of many rivers. Yes, you guessed it! Dominica. Truth be told, I know nothing of the island. At the tender age of two, I left DCA to go to Guadeloupe and only last year for the first time, I actually went sightseeing to some of the wonderful places. Dominica is so green! Oh my! It’s such a wonderful place.

Where did you go to school?

I went to school at College Mont des accord and Lycee on the French side. As any typical child or teenager, I found school a good experience. I had good and bad days, but it was enjoyable over all.

 What is your present career/profession?

I am a manager at Simpson Bay Yacht Club.

How did you get started with radio hosting?

It was an unexpected career choice for me. It all happened six years ago when SOS Radio 95.9FM had just opened its doors; I just walked in and told Billy D a concept of a program I was thinking of doing. I had no experience and no idea what the radio world was about; it was just something I wanted. The first program I had was called “The Beauty in Me” – I discussed violence, abuse, health and beauty topics. Billy D was as enthusiastic as I was about the concept and took it upon himself to coach me through the process. As a result, here I am today still in radio world. I am the host of the Positive Choice Radio program that airs every Tuesday at 8:00-9:00pm. The original founder and host is Brenda Lake, who is now studying and can no longer do the program with me. I miss her.

What do you love most about what you do?

Connecting with people. It is so great to hear people say, “Lady Q, good program” or “Thank you.”

What kind of people do you try to reach out to and why?

Everyone – and I mean everyone – young and old, rich and poor, black and white; because everyone has a story.

What is it that makes you good at what you do?

I do not discriminate; I love listening; I love the positive criticism; and I am open to any and everyone who wants to be heard.

What/who motivates you the most and why?

I am the mother of three beautiful kids. I strive to be a role model for my family. Each day as I set out to achieve the goals I have set, my family keeps me going.

What do you do in your free time?

I love to relax and spend time with my kids. Most of all, I enjoy sleeping as my function in general is hectic.

What hidden skills or talents do you have?

I have a hidden knack for interior home design. I love taking the time out to change the decoration and style of my home. Some of my close friends often tell me I am a very organized person; I guess that’s because I have a thorough approach to life.

What are your ambitions for the future?

To own my multifunctional business.

 What was your happiest moment?

The day I held my babies in my arms.

 What is your biggest fear?

Not living up to my own personal goals.

What would be your alternate choice of a place to live and work?

United Kingdom or France. Here I come!

If you could invite three famous people (dead or alive) for dinner, who would they be? What would be the one question you would ask and what would you prepare for them?

(Laughs) I love that question. I would invite Michael Jackson. We wouldn’t have dinner; we would chill and have a nice glass of wine. I would ask him why he decided to have such a transition. Black is so beautiful! I would invite Tyler Perry. We would have wine, of course, with some salt fish pie and fried plantain. I would ask him when we would start working together. And because I love laughter and funny moments, I would invite Kevin Hart for a drink just to make me laugh and see if we are the same height
