Dr. Alex Schwengle, Minister of Health, Elderly Care and Sport, paid a visit to St. Maarten last week, as he is looking for SXM's, and the other islands' participation in the upcoming Health Care Conference Aruba (HCCA).
The main goal for this conference is to achieve and/or reinforce collaboration between the different Dutch Kingdom partners, leading to the solution of common Health Care problems and/or difficulties.
The program will consist of four main topics, discussed during plenary and discussion sessions:
1. Health care system in small communities (in the Caribbean region)
2. From production-driven to quality-driven health care
3. From compartmentalized to integrated care (holistic care)
4. Collaboration within and between the Dutch Kingdom partners
Speakers for the Conference are coming from the Caribbean region, USA, and Europe and are experts in their fields: Shiyan Chao (currently consultant to the World Bank), Theo Poiesz, Philip J. Idenburg MSc MBA, Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M.D., Derek Haas, Dr. M. Joycelyn Elders (15th US Surgeon General).
The idea is to have all the islands involved in a unified front for better quality healthcare. The goal is to have each island represented by a delegation, consisting of representatives of hospital, social insurance and sickness insurance organizations, the policy makers, the health departments, various NGOs, etc, but also the Health Care Providers themselves, members of hospitals, Institutions of Health, Specialists, Primary Physicians, Nurses, etc.
The HCCA is taking place from 1 to 4 June 2015, at Renaissance Convention Center, Aruba. Registration for the conference is open. For more information, please visit http://www.hcca.aw/conference. Check out our next edition of Health and Beauty for more information on HCCA.
